Royal Bengal Tiger ‘Mahabir’ brought from MP released into wild in Satkosia forest

Angul: The Royal Bengal tiger relocated from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh last month was released into the wild in Satkosia Tiger Reserve on Friday.

The tiger which is known as ‘Mahabir’ was kept inside a specially designed enclosure under CCTV surveillance at Satkosia since June 21 and released into the forest for free movement after medical examination.

Wildlife PCCF Sandeep Tripathy informed that the big cat will be kept under close watch through a radio collar attached to its neck.

Three special teams have been formed to monitor the tiger’s movement inside the reserve, he added.

Meanwhile, another tigress which was relocated from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in MP on June 28 is waiting to be paired with Mahabir. She also has been kept under observation inside a special enclosure.
