Angul: The three-year-old Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) ‘T-2’, which was brought from the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve here, made its maiden kill on Friday night.

T-2 killed a wild boar weighing 60 kgs, which was released into the tiger’s enclosure, giving a sigh of relief to the anxious forest officials.

According to sources, the tiger had last hunted a deer in Kanha six days back and preyed the wild boar in Satkosia, indicating its quick adaption in the new territory.

The tiger’s relocation to Odisha has been done to help increase the tiger population at Satkosia. This also marked the first ever inter-state re-introduction of tigers.

As many as 78 families from Raiguda village were relocated outside the sanctuary as the tiger will be released in the wildlife sanctuary next month.

A tigress will be brought from Bandhavgarh sanctuary within two weeks in a bid to create breeding, said official sources at Satkosia.
