‘Red Flag Case’ tag to Koraput school girl gang rape caseBhubaneswar: Taking serious note of the public outrage over the gang rape of a Koraput school girl yesterday, Odisha police on Wednesday marked the heinous crime as a ‘Red Flag Case’ (a sensational case of crime against women which is dealt with top priority).

Speaking to reporters about the latest development in the case, DGP R.P Sharma said that a case had been filed in Potangi Police station under Sec 376 (D), 377 Sections of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act.

The case has been marked as a ‘Red Flag case’ and will be dealt with top priority. A Crime Branch team and forensic experts will reach the spot soon, added the DGP.

A five-member team of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is monitoring the victim’s health condition at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput.

Meanwhile, the Koraput unit of Congress party demanded the arrest of the accused within 24 hours failing which it threatened to observe a bandh in the district.

Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the Jeypore-Visakhapatnam route as the road blockade by the irate locals still continues in the town in protest against the gang rape  of the minor girl.

A ninth class student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel while returning from the Kunduli Haat (market) yesterday.
