Rajya Sabha Election: Soumya Ranjan, Achyuta Samanta & Prasanta Nanda to file nomination today

Bhubaneswar: BJD’s Rajya Sabha candidates Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Dr. Achyuta Samanta and Prashanta Nanda will file their nomination papers today.

They are slated to file their nomination papers with the returning officer at 12.30 PM in the presence of BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a host of party leaders.

Patnaik had on Wednesday named them as the ruling party’s nominee for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from the state.

The BJD named media baron Soumya Ranjan and philanthropist Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, hours after they joined the conch party.

On the other hand, Prashanta Nanda has been the spokesperson and Vice-President of the party.

Notably, three seats in Rajya Sabha from the state will fall vacant as the tenure of BJD Members A. U Singhdeo and Dilip Tirkey as well as BJD-backed Independent candidate A. V Swami is scheduled to end on April 2.

The polling will be held between 9 AM and 4 PM on March 23, while the votes will be counted at 5 PM on the same day.
