Rajnath Singh begins 4-day J&K visit today

Rajnath SinghNew Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will begin a four-day visit Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Saturday to review security situation in the state. During his visit — from today to Tuesday– to the state, he will meet the Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

The Home Minister, who will travel to Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu and Rajouri, will also hold talks with civil society members, leaders of political and social outfits, business leaders and others.

Singh has said that he is going to J&K with an open mind and is ready to meet anyone who wishes to help resolve differences through dialogue.

The Minister, who will be accompanied by Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior officials of his Ministry, will also review Prime Minister’s Development Package and meet various delegations at Srinagar and Jammu. He will also interact with jawans of Jammu and Kashmir Police jawans and CRPF and BSF personnel in the state.

Singh is also likely to interact with college students in Srinagar to get their views on the unrest in Kashmir.

Singh’s in visit is considered a follow-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech in which he had sounded a fresh reach-out to the people of the Kashmir Valley.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who heads the Congress policy planning group on Kashmir, will also lead a team of party leaders to J&K next week for discussions on the current situation in the state with party workers and various sections of people.
