Manchester: KL Rahul’s dashing stroke-play and Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav’s magical spell of wrist spin helped India to register victory over England in the opening T20 international by eight wickets here on Tuesday evening.

Chasing 160 to win, Rahul’s 101 off 54 balls eased the visitors to their target, while Captain Virat Kohli ended the match with a six.

Rahul, who smashed his second T20 International hundred, hit 10 fours and as many as five sixes.

Earlier Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first. Kuldeep took 5-24, including three wickets in one over, as England’s middle order collapsed, though both openers Buttler and Roy started well hitting a flurry of boundaries off Bhuvneshwar.

From 95 for 1, England were left tottering at 107 for 5 and never really recovered from that body blow dealt by the Chinaman bowler. Kuldeep received the Player of the Match award.

The second T20 will be held in Cardiff on Friday.
