Puri TempleCuttack: A day after media highlighted the photos of Jagamohan repair works of Puri Jagannath Temple being viral on social media, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday sought a report from the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in this connection.

The High Court has directed the SJTA to submit a detailed report over the incident by December 6.

On the other hand, the SJTA has issued a show cause notice to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) over the issue.

Similarly, Justice BP Das Commission of Inquiry for Reforms in Srimandir had sought reports from the Law Secretary, SJTA, Puri Collector and SP within 10 days hours after the photos issue was highlighted by the media.

According to reports, the pictures are believed to have been taken during a scientific investigation inside the Jagamohan and the sanctum sanctorum of Srimandir during Rath Yatra this year.

Temple administrator Pradeep Jena had yesterday clarified that Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research scientist Sadanand Sharma apologised for posting the pictures on his Facebook account. Sharma had sought an apology to SJTA through an e-mail and already deleted the said pictures, claimed Jena.

The scientist was part of the team that inspected the sanctum sanctorum as part of an expert team that included the Archaeological Survey of India and officials of the state works department.

According to Section 30-A (4-C) of the Jagannath Temple Act, 1953, devotees cannot take cameras inside the twelfth century shrine. The temple administration has also banned mobile phones inside the shrine and officials said violation of the act was punishable with up to two months in prison and a penalty of Rs 1,000.

The viral pictures of Puri Jagannath temple on social media have elicited sharp reactions from devotees and servitors about the security arrangements inside the temple.
