Puri: Savita Kovind, the First Lady of India and wife of President Ram Nath Kovind, was also not spared from the misbehaviour of the erring servitors of Puri Shree Jagannath Temple during her visit to the 12th century shrine along with Kovind.

The incident came to fore after the Rashtrapati Bhavan in an official communique raised the matter with the Puri temple administration recently saying that the First Lady was misbehaved by two servitors during her visit in March this year.

The servitors had also expressed their displeasure before media after Kovind did not give them any dakshina (offering).

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) recently held a meeting and decided to serve show cause notice to the accused servitors over the matter.

As per reports, some servitors allegedly nudged the first citizen of the nation and his wife while they were having darshan of the deities on March 18.

The report further said that a Khuntia Mekap servitor allegedly did not make room for the President while he was offering prayers in the sanctum sanctorum.

Notably, following a petition filed by Mrinalini Padhi, the Supreme Court had recently directed the Odisha government to take adequate measures to prevent difficulties faced by devotees at the temple and their harassment or exploitation by the servitors.
