Probe team submit report of Bomikhal overbridge collapse, says there were no safety measures

Bhubaneswar: The three-member engineer team, which was probing the much sensational Bomikhal overbridge collapse case, submitted its final report to the state government on Thursday.

The probe team in its report said that the mishap happened due to the negligence of Panda Infra Projects, the constructing agency which was engaged in the work.

The three-member probe team also mentioned that the agency had not taken safety measures and engaged unskilled workers in the construction work.

Meanwhile, in a jolt to the Panda Infra, Works Minister Prafulla Mallick said that the agency has been disengaged from the ongoing construction works of Bomikhal and Lingaraj overbridges. However, decision of disengaging the agency from other projects will be take later.

The Works Department will take over the construction work of both the overbridges and try to compete them within two months, he added.

On the other hand, the Commissionerate Police has arrested the Panda Infra Projects Director Prashant Padhi today.

The Works Department of the state government had formed a probe team comprising three engineers after a labourer was killed while another was injured in Bomikhal flyover tragedy which took place last Thursday.

Panda Infra MD Pratap Kishore Panda was arrested in the wake of the second mishap at the same overbridge.

The Panda Infra Projects was blacklisted after a portion of the under-construction Bomikhal flyover project had caved in on September 10 last year.
