Private bus strike hits commuters in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The indefinite strike of private buses which began today hit passengers and daily commuters across the state.

Employees, students and people from different walks of life who depend on the private buses for their daily transportation have faced the brunt of the bus trike. Some of the passenger who were unaware of the bus bandh were seen stranded at different bus stands.

They were forced to either cough up extra money or have to be packed in the alternative communication facilities.

The All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBWA) has called for the indefinite strike across the state to press its 11-point-charter of demands.

The AOPBWA is also protesting the state government’s decision to ply 300 city buses on long routes and increase in tax collection from bus operators.

Over 17,000 private buses have gone off road due to the strike.
