President Kovind arrives in Odisha on maiden visit

Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here at 10.30 AM on Saturday. He was accompanied by his wife Savita Kovind and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the airport.

This is Kovind’s first official visit to the state after being elected as the President.

The President was welcomed by Odisha Governor SC Jamir ,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, State Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, DGP RP Sharma, City Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and other senior officer of the state administration.

Kovind is scheduled to visit Cuttack today, where he will pay tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at his birthplace in the city. Later, he will dedicate the Anand Bhavan Museum and Learning Centre – a memorial to late Chief Minister Biju Patnaik to the people of the state. He will also grace the foundation day celebrations of the National Law University.

The President will then leave for Puri in the evening and have a night stay over there.

On Sunday, Kovind and his family will visit the Lord Jagannath temple in the holy city. Later, the President will inaugurate the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan’s centenary celebrations in Puri.

The President will also attend the 6th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) here on Sunday. During the ceremony, he will lay the foundation stone of the Skill Development India Centre and inaugurate the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai and the Indian Oil Odisha campus in the city.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the two-day visit of the President.
