Bijepur: Tension ran high in the bypoll-bound Bijepur block of Bargarh district last night after a group of unidentified miscreants barged into local BJP youth wing leader’s house in Pada village here and fled the spot after firing.

As per the reports, at least three masked men reached Manoranjan Meher’s house boarding a Mahindra Bolero vehicle at around 7.30 PM in the evening and fired at least three rounds of bullet which struck on the doors and walls. However, no body sustained injury in the attack. The attackers immediately drove away from the spot.

Meher who happens to be circle president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) lodged a complaint in the incident at Bijepur Police Station late in the night and named State Labour Minister Sushant Singh’s brother Subrat Singh and three others in it as accused.

Similarly, BJP also held BJD men responsible for the attack on Meher’s house and gave call for a ‘Satyagraha’ which would be held in front of Bijepur Police station at 11 AM today.

“The BJD party is rattled over its weak position in the Bijepur constituency for which by-poll would be held soon. Its leaders and workers are continuously resorting to violence which is absolutely unwanted in democracy. We want an independent probe in the matter,” said Golak Nayak, senior BJP leader.

Meanwhile, Bargarh Police have taken the attack seriously and a team under SDPO Laxminarayan Panda has been formed to probe the case.
