Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Prabhat Biswal, currently under CBI remand, was rushed to the Capital Hospital on Friday following a sickness. The decision to shift Biswal to the hospital was taken after a health check-up done by the Jharpada Jail authorities – where he has been lodged — the same day.
The BJD MLA, who was taken on remand by CBI on Wednesday in connection with his involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam committed by Seashore Group, was produced before the special CBI court by the investigating agency on Friday, a day before his remand for four days was to end. As the lawyer of Biswal Anup Senapati argued before the court that his client should be shifted to hospital due to a surgery related sickness, the Judge ordered a health check-up by the jail authorities. The check-up was done later in the day.
The bail petition filed by Biswal on health grounds would be heard today.
Biswal’s arrest by CBI on Monday sparked off a hue and cry with the BJD workers gheraoing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office here on Wednesday. The ruling party leaders complained of a political vendetta of BJP behind the action against the MLA.
