Power generation in Vedanta’s Odisha plant to resume soon

VedantaBhubaneswar: Putting an end to the lingering uncertainty over power generation in Vedanta power plants in the state, the company announced on Thursday that the plants would resume power generation soon. The resumption of power generation is now possible as the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has revoked its earlier order to close five power units, it said.

The announcement by the Vedanta authorities makes it clear that the company’s thermal power plant and Captive Power Plant (CPP) located at Katikela in Jharsuguda district could resume production anytime.

In a BSE filing on Thursday, the Vedanta Ltd informed that as the OSPCB had revoked its order of September 14 to close five units of the company’s power plants and allowed three of them to start production, production at the plants is a mere formality now.

The company, however, clarified that the pollution control board had specified some precautionary measures and told the plant authorities not to discharge any industrial effluents and ash slurry to any water body or land nearby.

Notably, the OSPCB had directed the Vedanta authorities to close five units of its power plants—both thermal and captive—on September 14 in view of a breach in the ash pond dyke wall.
