Politicians, Journalists condemn ‘Rising Kashmir’ editor Shujaat Bukhari’s killing

Srinagar: Several politicians, journalists and established persons from different fields have condemned the killing of Syed Shujaat Bukhari, senior journalist and editor in chief of English daily Rising Kashmir, here on Thursday evening.
Bukhari and his two Personal Security Officers were shot dead after four unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire upon their vehicle outside Press Enclave, here at around 7 PM last evening. So far, no militant outfit has taken responsibility for the attack.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has termed the killing of Bukhari as an act of cowardice. In a tweet, he said, it is an attempt to silence the saner voices of Kashmir.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, in a tweet, called the assassination- a brutal attack on freedom of press.

J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed his condolences over Bukhari’s sudden demise and said, “Terrorism has hit a new low with Shujaat’s killing”.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi said he was anguished to hear about the killing of Bukhari.

CPI leader D Raja said his party condemns the killing of senior journalist Shujat Bukhari. “It is shocking that journalists are being targeted in this manner and it is a sad day not just for Jammu and Kashmir but for the entire country. Shujat was known for his courage and conviction”, he said.
Senior journalist Nidhi Razdan expressed his condolences and termed it a devastating news.

The Press Club of India also issued a statement “strongly condemning” the killing of veteran journalist Bukhari.
