Bhubaneswar: A political slug fest has begun over former Congress MLA Subal Sahu’s family joining BJD on Saturday with senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik alleging that both the BJD and BJP have always tried to break others’ houses and BJP leader Subhas Chouhan claiming that the former Bijepur MLA had wished to join the saffron party which was blocked by the BJD.
“Subal Sahu was one of my good friends. Both BJD and BJP want to break others houses. Their organization is not stable in Bijepur constituency,” alleged senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik while speaking to the reporters after Sahu’s kin and followers joined the BJD.
Former Congress MLA Nihar Mahananda said, “Subal Sahu was in Congress and not his family. They are doing business and were never in the Congress party. Their joining in BJD will not have any negative impact on the Congress.”
BJP also claimed that Subal Sahu’s final wish was to join the saffron party, which the BJD did not allow.
“Subal Sahu’s wish was to join BJP. But BJD leaders did not allow his dream to come true by forcing his family members to join them. BJP will take the Bijepur by-election, if takes place, seriously,” said BJP leader Subas Chouhan.
On the other hand, BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy said that Subal Sahu’s last wish was to be in BJD.
“According to his family members, Subal Sahu had decided to be in BJD before the 2019 election. BJD had lost in the constituency with a very small margin. The state government has done a lot of work in the constituency and the new political scenario will definitely help the BJD win the next election in Bijepur.”
