Police find important clues in Balangir ‘gift parcel blast’ case

Balangir: In a ‘significant’ development in the Patnagarh wedding gift blast case which killed the groom along with his grandmother and left the bride injured on February 23, Balangir Police have claimed of getting important clues during investigation on Saturday.

Informing on the progress of the investigation Balangir SP K Siva Subramani said two separate police teams which have been sent to Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Bangalore in Karnataka have got some clues on the accused. He said the investigation is moving in the right direction and the accused would be nabbed soon.

“We have expedited our investigation and two separate police teams have been engaged in Raipur, from where the deadly gift parcel had been sent, and Bangalore where the groom Soumyasekhar had worked. Our teams have got important clues pointing at a love angle in the case,” claimed the SP.

Meanwhile, Patnagarh Police have recorded the statement of the injured bride Reema at the SCB Medical under Section 161 CrPC in presence of the magistrate on Saturday. Reema who sustained 36 percent burn injuries in the blast has been admitted at the Cabin No. 3 of the Plastic Surgery Department. She hears less on her left ear following the mishap.

Reema who married Soumya Sekhar Sahu of Bholanathpada in Patnagarh on February 18, received a gift pack four days later on the occasion of her reception. Soumya and his grandmother were killed and Reema sustained burn injury in a blast which took place following their attempt to open the pack on February 23.
