PM seeks Opposition’s support for smooth conduct of Monsoon session

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sought cooperation of all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during its Monsoon session, starting from tomorrow.

The Government today convened an all-party meeting here ahead of the session. After the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that all parties have assured the Government of their cooperation for smooth functioning of the session and passage of various pending bills.

Apart from the PM and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel, Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and CPI leader D Raja were among those who attended the meeting.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will also hold discussions with leaders of various political parties this evening for smooth functioning of the session.

Monsoon session has been scheduled to continue till 10th of August. The session will have 18 sittings. During the session, Triple Talaq Bill, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is pending in the Rajya Sabha, will be among the top priorities of the government to pass it.

With the 2019 general polls less than a year away, opposition parties are expected to corner the government over issues ranging from fuel price hike and farmers ‘plight during the session.
