GESHyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President’s advisor Ivanka Trump jointly inaugurated the eighth Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) here on Tuesday evening. They pressed buttons displaying the flags of India and the US on a robot.

This year’s summit theme demonstrates the commitment of the United States and Indian government’s principle that when women are economically empowered, their communities and countries thrive.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said, Indian women continue to lead in different walks of life.

“Three out of four oldest High Courts in India are now headed by women judges. Our sportswomen have done the country proud. This very city of Hyderabad is home to Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, & Sania Mirza, who have brought laurels to India,” Modi said.

“To my entrepreneur friends across the world, I would like to say come make in India, invest in India, for India and for the world,” he urged.

Addressing the GES opening ceremony, Ivanka Trump said India has a true friend in White House.  She also acknowledged that India is one of the fastest growing economies.

The Summit aims to focus on four innovative and high-growth sectors- including Healthcare and Life Sciences; Digital Economy and Financial Technology; Energy and Infrastructure and Media and Entertainment.

The three-day event hosted by India and the United States is being held for the first time in South Asia.
