PM Modi launches UDAN – A Giant Leap Forward in Air Travel

The long wait is over. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally inaugurated the UDAN flight under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, which will ensure low cost air travel between small distance cities.

The PM inaugurated the Shimla-Delhi flight in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh this morning. Flights on other routes such as Kadala-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderabad sectors were also flagged off through video link.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat, CM Virbhadra Singh, Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, MoS Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Lok Sabha MPs Shanta Kumar, Virendra Kashyap, Anurag Thakur, Ram Swaroop Sharma were present on the occasion.
50% of the seats on these flights will be reserved under UDAN scheme, while airfare has been capped at Rs 2,500 for an onE hour journey of approx 500 km. The scheme will ensure enhanced air connectivity with 70 more airports, making the air travel easier and convenient for common man.
There will be proportionate pricing for routes of different stage length and flight duration. “Air travel is not just for rich. We want people in hawai chappals to fly in hawai jahaz (planes),” said the PM while launching UDAN.
