PM Modi felicitates Kins of Paika Warriors, visits Lingaraj Temple

On his second day of Odisha visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated kins of 16 Warriors of ‘1817 Paika Rebellion’ or ‘Paika Bidroha’ at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. The list included descendants of Jayee Rajguru, Baxi Jagabandhu, Chakra Bisoyee, Veer Surendra Sai, Chakhi Khuntia, Raghu-Dibakar, Laxmi Indira Panda and Laxman Nayak.

On behalf of Baxi Jagabandhu, late Lulu Mohapatra’s mother, brother and daughter were felicitated. Freedom Fighter Hatanath Mangaraj (98) was felicitated on behalf of freedom fighter Dama Subudhi Mangaraj.

PM hailed the Paika Warriors and said he was fortunate to meet the descendants of those great people. He also promised to find a way to ensure that people of India remember these heroes and learn more about them.

Later, PM Modi drove straight to Lord Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. He met the people, waved at them before entering the temple premises and paying obeisance to the deities. He roamed around the Temple, took photos. The sevayats took selfie with the PM. Modi ended his Lingaraj Temple visit after signing the Visitors’ Book.

PM Modi is now attending the second and concluding day of BJP’s National Executive at Janata Maidan.
