Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, on Wednesday signed an MoU with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for distribution of energy efficient appliances under the flagship “Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and appliances for All”(UJALA) scheme.

Union Minister for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were present on the occasion.

As per the agreement, Oil Marketing Companies – Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) – will distribute UJALA Energy Efficient Appliances through their Petrol Pumps across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said, “It is the vision of the Government of India to reduce our dependence on import of energy by up to 10%. These three oil marketing companies have over 53, 000 petrol pumps. It is a great opportunity to utilise this network to ensure that LED bulbs and tube lights reach every corner of our country.”

“The ecosystem of non-fuel retail business around the retail outlets will not only help drive the non-fuel business but will also lead to customer convenience in their own vicinity,” Pradhan added. These electrical products will be available across the country in the next six months.
