Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has begun a search operation to trace the auto driver who helped English lecturer Punjilal Meher, the prime accused of Patnagarh wedding gift blast in Balangir district.

Informing about this, DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma said that three special teams have been working on every detail for collection of more evidences required during the trial in court. One of the teams has gone to Raipur in Chhattisgarh from where the killer parcel was sent through Sky King Courier. The team will search for the auto driver who had helped Punjilal in sending the parcel after getting extra money, he added.

Sharma further said that the state police will use advanced digital forensic technology for further investigation into the gift blast case.

Various materials seized by the investigating agency during the course of investigation will be sent to different national and international scientific agencies including Israel to retrieve all the data which Punjilal reportedly deleted after execution of the crime.

The CCTV footage of the courier company will be sent to Israel to confirm Punjilal’s presence in the video recordings.

The anonymous letter which is believed to be written by Punjilal to confuse the investigation process will be sent to Gandhinagar’s scientific laboratory. Similarly, the specimen will be sent for a DNA test as police suspect the prime accused had used his saliva to enclose it.

Punjilal, who is on a six-day remand, had sent the parcel to the newly-wed bridegroom, Soumyasekhar as a wedding gift. Soumyasekhar and his grandmother were killed while his wife Reema was injured after the parcel exploded on February 23.
