Panic in Ganjam villages after cattle ‘die-offs’

cattle deathBerhampur: Panic gripped the Chikiti and Sanakhemundi blocks of Gajam district after at least 22 cattle found dead in the area on Friday.

The cattle carcasses including those of cows, bulls and buffaloes were recovered from Gumma Birasinghapur village under Chikiti and S Gopalpur village under Sanakhemundi blocks this morning.

A team of Veterinary doctors from the district animal resources development unit rushed to the affected villages getting intimation on the incident and examined the carcasses. Later on, they carried out vaccination of the cattle in both the villages and make arrangements to bury the dead animals.

The Veterinary team is still in the area and trying to find out the cause of the death of cattle in such a large number.

Notably, over a hundred cattle have been found dead in Chikiti and Sanakhemundi blocks in last 3 days due to an unknown disease.
