Bhubaneswar: The Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) today issued an advisory to farmers in the state, asking them to make all necessary arrangements for the safekeeping of their paddy crop, in view of the possible heavy rainfall between November 16 and 18.

The advisory came in view of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast yesterday, predicting heavy spells of thundershower in coastal and interior parts of the state due to a low pressure which is forming around South-East Bay of Bengal. It advised the farmers to move their harvested paddy to safer place. Ripe paddy should be harvested and moved to safety locations at the possible earliest, it added.

The OUAT advisory also specified guidelines for ‘Mandis’ for the safekeeping of paddy as well as to protect them from pest or other insect attack.

The low pressure over Bay of Bengal could intensify into a depression and may induce light showers till November 13-15 in the state.
