OSPCB permits IMFA to restart Mining in Sukinda

MiningBhubaneswar: In a major development, Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) on Friday permitted India Metals and Ferro Alloys (IMFA), one of the leading ferro alloys producing companies in India, to restart mining work at Sukinda and Mahagiri chromite mines in Jajpur district of the state.

Mining work of IMFA was stalled by OSPCB since April 22 citing pot holes and ruts on the mining roads, non-adherence to ambient air quality normss and lack of a wheel washing facility.

The company, headed by senior BJD leader and Kendrapara MP Baijayanat Panda’s brother, Subhrakant Panda, had moved court on May 10 alleging that the OSPCB’s decision to revoke permission for mining work was arbitrary and vindictive.
