Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Tuesday directed the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to open the Jagamohan, the hall facing the Sanctum Sanctorum in Puri Jagannath Temple (Srimandir) by April 16.

Expressing its displeasure over the temple administration for not specifying the date for opening of the Jagamohan, a bench headed by Chief Justice Vineet Saran rejected SJTA’s plea for keeping Jagamohan closed till August 1.

The court directed the temple and district administrations to open the Jagamohan for general darshan that has been closed since the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) took up its repair works two years ago on January 27, 2016.

In its previous hearing, the High Court o on April 5 had also censured the SJTA for failing to mention exact date for opening Jagamohan in its affidavit submitted in the court.

The next hearing on the matter has been postponed to April 19.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the High Court has been monitoring the repair work of the Srimandir in response to a PIL seeking judicial intervention for repair and renovation of the temple.
