Bengaluru: Odisha’s Asutosh Padhy pulled off an incredible victory against defending champion and favourite Pankaj Advani in the last-32 of the Senior National Men’s Snooker Championship, at KSBA here on Wednesday.

21-year- old Padhy aggressively potted everything on offer to stun the 18-time world champion. He defeated Advani 4-1 (62-36, 75-47, 30-60, 90 (57)-3, 84 (47)-11) to storm into the pre-quarterfinals of the championship.

“This is the biggest win of my career. Pankaj is my idol, so this is unbelievable,” Padhy said.

Padhy, son of former Odisha Minister Surama Padhy, is currently pursuing a law degree in Mumbai and training under Sanjay Sawant.

Padhy is the fourth player to achieve hat-trick in a national championship, after Geet Sethi, Pankaj Advani and Dhvaj Haria.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Padhy saying “Odisha is proud of your exemplary feat”.
