Odisha’s Amit Rohidas selected in Indian Men’s Hockey team for Gold Coast CWG

New Delhi: Odisha’s Amit Rohidas has been selected in Indian Men’s Hockey team for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. He is the lone Odia star to be selected by the selection committee today.

Amit Rohidas, a native of Saunamara village in Sundergarh district plays as a defender in the field hockey.

He started playing hockey in his village and joined the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela in 2004. He was selected in the national junior team in 2009.

Rohidas was selected in the senior squad for the Asia Cup-2013 held in Ipoh where the Indian team won the silver medal. He was also in the team which under Manpreet Singh’s leadership lifted the coveted Asia Cup-2017 in Dhaka.

India is grouped in Pool-B along with Pakistan, Wales, Malaysia and England in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia. The Indian team will begin their campaign on April 7 against Pakistan.

The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be played from April 4 to April 15.

Below are the names of the players picked up for the mega sports event:

Goalkeepers: PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera;

Defenders: Rupinder Pal Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Kothajit Singh, Gurinder Singh, Amit Rohidas;

Midfielders: Manpreet Singh (C), Chinglensana Singh (vice-captain), Sumit, Vivek Sagar Prasad

Forwards: Akashdeep Singh, SV Sunil, Gurjant Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Dilpreet Singh.
