Odisha Truckers to join nationwide strike from July 20

Cuttack: All the truckers in Odisha affiliated to All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) will join indefinite nationwide ‘Chakka jam’ strike from July 20 to press their six point charter of demands including reduction in fuel price .

Briefing a press conference here, AIMTC President SK Mittal said, “We have been demanding reduction in diesel prices and uniform pricing nationally besides a quarterly revision of fuel prices, but in vain. Our pleas have fallen on deaf years and we are compelled to go on nationwide strike.”

Besides reduction in diesel prices, Truck owners’ other demands are inclusion of petrol and diesel  under GST ambit, closure of toll plazas across the national highways, reduction of insurance premium, collection of TDS and streamlining of port congestion etc.

The strike is likely to have impact on import-export trade, port operations, transportation of manufacturing and industrial goods and commodities.
