FAOTA to boycott Chinese articlesCuttack: The Federation of All Odisha Traders’ Association (FAOTA) on Friday decided to close shop for one-day in a bid to stop sale and purchase of ‘Chinese’ products across the state in view of the ongoing tension between India and China.

A decision to this effect was taken during the General Council Meeting of the trade union at Malgodown yesterday.

Though the exact date of the closure of the business establishments across the state is yet to be finalized, FAOTA said that traders will announce the date during the General Council Meeting of the union scheduled in the last week of July in Bhubaneswar.

“The neighbouring country is earning windfall benefits by selling its products in the Indian market. We have decided to stop selling and purchasing of Chinese products in Odisha as currently China has become the enemy number-1 of India,” said Cuttack traders’ union general secretary BK Mohanty.

“We will close shop for one-day to urge the common people to boycott Chinese products,” he added.

Apart from the members of FAOTA and Cuttack traders’ union, the presidents and general secretaries of different trade unions attended the meeting.
