Bhubaneswar: In the wake of increasing cases of crime against minor children including rape in Odisha, state police is all set to begin an awareness campaign titled ‘Pari Paain Katha Tie’.

DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma, while briefing the newsmen about the initiative, said that the idea behind the campaign is to make the children, their parents and general public aware about the social evil and to encourage them to report such matters to the police without any second thought.

The Pari Paain Katha Tie drive, which will be organised in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), will also help in sensitizing the people about the legal implications of the crime that includes capital punishment for raping a minor below 12 years of age and life imprisonment in some cases.

The campaign will be flagged-off from the State Police Headquarters on May 28.

As many as 15 specially designed vehicles known as ‘Pari Rath’ with LCD screen to play audio visual messages will be allotted one for two districts.

The ‘Pari Rath’ will cover the district headquarters, blocks and panchayats and will distribute printed posters, leaflets, pamphlets and handouts to the people to sensitize them about the social evil.

A valedictory function of the awareness campaign will be held on May 12 in Bhubaneswar.
