Odisha Police issues Advisory on Viral Obscene Video

Rajendra SharmaBhubaneswar: As the reports have been pouring in from different parts of the state about various obscene pictures and videos going viral on social networking platforms in last few days, Odisha DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Wednesday issued an advisory notice for the benefit of general public and all sections of the society including media persons in this connection.

The advisory stated various instructions to refrain from taking the videos of intimate moments of private acts failing which will attract the penal provisions of Voyeurism having a punishment for a term of 1-3 years.

It also asked the public not to post / circulate/ transmit/ publish any objectionable pictures or videos containing obscenity or any sexually explicit act in any social networking platforms failing which will attract punishment for a term of 5-7 years.

It also advised the people to approach the nearest Police Station or Cyber Crime Police Station if anybody comes across about circulating of any objectionable viral pictures/videos in any of the social networking platforms.

The Crime branch, in its advisory, appealed educational institutions and public representative to create awareness in the society especially among the youth to abstain from such acts.

Significantly, it asked the media (electronic/ print/ web) persons not to publish or circulate such objectionable viral pictures/videos and also not to disclose the identity of the victim or the family.
