A series of functions have been organised to highlight the contribution of Netaji and Veer Surendra Sai during the freedom movement of India. The State Government would organise a special programme at Jaydev Bhavan here in the evening to celebrate the birth anniversary of the freedom fighters.

It was on this day in 1897, Netaji was born in Cuttack, while Surendra Sai was born at khinda village in Sambalpur on 23 January 1809.

Bose had been a leader of the younger, radical, wing of the Indian National Congress in the late 1920s and 1930s, rising to become Congress President in 1938 and 1939. His slogan ‘Jai Hind’ is relevant to us even today.
