Tathagata-SatpathyBhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy on Friday criticised an ordinance of the Union Government that amended the Indian Forest Act omitting bamboo grown in non-forest areas from the definition of trees.

Speaking to Kalinga TV, Satpathy said, “Axing the bamboo from a list of plants is an important decision, which can be discussed in the floor of the House. However, the ordinance route deprived the people of the country to know the pros and cons of the move as bamboo grows abundantly in areas outside forests.”

Citing a huge scam on the ordinance, Satpathy also pointed out that the decision will not benefit the needy people including farmers and tribals across the country.

“Fed Govt asserts Bamboo not a tree! Fine. Passes Ordinance & Prez signs it. Not Fine! Bypassing Parliament thru Ordinance. Not Fine.Who benefits? Growers? Doubt it.CanNOT but be a huge scam, “, Satpathy wrote in Twitter.
