Odisha MLAs, Ministers, others to get hefty pay hike

Odisha Cabinet hikes salaries, allowances of MLAs, CMBhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for a big hike in the salaries and allowances of MLAs of the state.

As per the decision, all legislators of the state Assembly will now draw Rs 100,000 as salary and allowances per month while the Chief Minister will get an enhanced Rs 98,000 towards salary and allowances per month.

Accordingly, the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly is now entitled to get Rs 97,500 and Deputy Speaker Rs 95,000. The Leader of Opposition will be getting Rs 97,000, Cabinet rank Ministers Rs 97,000 and the state rank Ministers 95,000 towards salary and allowances per month.

Government Chief Whip and Deputy Government Chief Whip will draw Rs 97,000 and Rs 93,000 respectively towards salary and allowances per month.

It needs to be mentioned here that MLAs of all parties had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday morning and drew his attention to the need for augmentation of their salary and allowances. They had also requested the CM to increase the Member of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development (MLALAD) amount from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore per annum.
