Kandhamal: A man was beaten to death and his body was set on fire over allegedly practising sorcery at Badabanga village under Daringbadi police limits in Kandhamal district on Friday.
According to reports, some residents of the village beat one Subhas Chandra Majhi on the suspicion that he was practising sorcery . Later, they torched his body in a nearby forest to bury the matter.
The matter came to fore after Majhi’s wife Subhasini lodged a complaint in Daringbadi police station following which police conducted a search in the forest and recovered the half charred body of Subhas and sent it for postmortem.
Meanwhile, police have detained seven persons and are interrogating them in connection with the incident.
