Odisha to have India’s 1st blood bank for cattle Bhubaneswar: Odisha will soon have a blood bank for cattle, the first of its kind in the country.

The blood bank would be set up at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. It will be funded under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).

While informing about the development, OUAT vice chancellor (VC) Surendranath Pasupalak said, “We think the project will be sanctioned by the end of July. Once implemented, it would cater to the dire need for blood for the cattle at the time of emergency like anaemia, while giving birth and road mishaps.”

“We will also directly involve farmers and identify potential cattle blood donors. The storage facility would come in handy for the veterinarians to save lives of domesticated animals,” he added.
