Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Monday joined hand with Tata Trust in a bid to provide better cancer care in the state. This will also reduce the travel time and waiting period of the patients.
A state-of-the-art cancer treatment and research hospital will be established in Bhubaneswar to enable patients avail modern & world class cancer treatment facilities.
The comprehensive care programme would be executed through a three-tier network of facilities with the hospital in Bhubaneswar and the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack.
The medical colleges in Odisha and the district hospitals would be equipped to offer diagnostics and standardized day care chemotherapy with selected district hospitals additionally offering radiotherapy services.
This would create a state-wide cancer care network with an objective to take treatment closest to patients.
“The Tata Trust has recommended a three-tier step-down model focusing on prevention and early detection of cancer and making cancer care accessible by reducing the travel time to a maximum 2.5-3 hours, which would result in improved survival rates,” said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi while briefing the reporters after the meeting at the State Secretariat.
Adding to Padhi, official sources said that the estimated cost towards the infrastructure development in five years would be around Rs 1000 crore, which would be evenly shared by the Tata Trust and the state government.
It was decided that Odisha Cancer Care Foundation would be set up with 50 percent shareholding each of the Odisha government and Tata Trust.
