Odisha Govt seeks 15 days to address teachers’ demands Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Wednesday sought 15 days to address the demands of the agitating teachers. This was informed by the delegate of the teachers’ body after holding a discussion with the School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra.

“Our meeting with the School and Mass Education Minister was successful. We discussed with him over our three point charter of demands. The Minister urged us to call-off the agitation assuring to addrees the matter within 15 days. The state government will give a written assurance in this regard,”said Rajesh Mohanty, President of the teachers’ body, after meeting the Minister.

“However, we will discuss the matter with the steering committee and the next course of action will be decided after the meeting of the teachers’ body,” he added.

“A high power committee will meet on November 17 over teachers’ issues and will submit its report to the Chief Minister to take a final call,” said the School & Mass Education Minister.

Despite restriction by the state government to hold demonstration, thousands of teachers under the banner of two teachers’ associations – Primary Teachers’ Association covered under new pension scheme (contributory pension scheme) and Odisha Siksha Sahayak Sangha today staged protest at Lower PMG demanding fulfillment of their three-charter of demands including appointment of the teachers as junior teachers with a Grade Pay of Rs. 2800.

The state government had yesterday imposed restriction on the teachers saying not more than one teacher of a school can take leave on a single day. It had threatened that action would be taken if any teacher remains off-duty without taking prior permission.
