Badri PatraBhubaneswar: In an important decision, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department on Thursday issued a notification to raise the number of seats in all Junior Colleges in the state by 10% to give another chance to students who were pushed up during the second phase admission process. The provision would remain in effect only for the academic session 2017-18.

Informing on the decision here, State School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra said the step is aimed at providing the students in rural and tribal belts of the State with another opportunity to get a seat in a college of their choice.

The new decision would be applicable to all Junior Colleges as well as Higher Secondary schools in the State except Government Junior Colleges where the second phase admission process has already been completed with all the seats filled up.

Students can apply through the authorised Student Academic Management System (SAMS) resource centres to take admission in these hiked seats by August 20. The merit-list for admission would be published by the authorities on August 24 and the enrollment process would be completed by August 30.

Notably, the decision for the seat hike in +2 colleges is being taken despite the fact that around 50,000 seats in 1,544 Junior Colleges in the state are lying vacant even after second phase admission.
