Odisha appoints 581 new doctors Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Monday gave appointment to 581 new doctors, the highest number of doctors to join in one go till date, for providing quality health service to the people and filling up vacancies across the state.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave away the appointment letters to the doctors during an induction programme at Rabindra Mandap today.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said; “We have successfully introduced a Placement Based Incentive System (PBIS), which has resulted in a sharp decline in the vacancies of doctors in remote and difficult areas.”

“To attract doctors to the State Medical Service, we have taken a number of other initiatives like the restructuring of the Medical Service Cadre, introduction of a transparent transfer policy, additional weightage in PG examination for doctors working in far off areas. Besides, we have introduced a corpus fund for KBK and KBK Plus districts for hiring, accommodation and transportation of healthcare providers. These initiatives have yielded encouraging results in remote areas, especially in Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts,” the CM stated.

Patnaik informed that his government is keenly pursuing filling up of vacant posts in other cadres in the health sector.

“More than 150 posts of dental surgeons have been filled up and another 266 dentists will be recruited this year. More than 5700 posts of paramedics will also be filled up this year. Besides, we will soon post 169 Homoeopathic and 50 Ayurvedic doctors in the state,” the CM said.

On this occasion, Naveen also accorded District Headquarters Hospital status to the Jeypore Sub-divisional Hospital in Koraput district.
