Anindita won the competition, conducted by the Tourism Department of the United Kingdom, for her poem ‘Voice from the Past’ which surpassed that of other finalists.

Her final task was to compose the poem over a photograph featuring two soldiers fighting for their country.

“I am very happy that I won the competition out of 50 finalists. I thank everyone who read my poem and voted for me online,” said Anindita while speaking to KalingaTV.

“I began writing when I was only 11 year old. All my family members have been encouraged me to write the poem. I have penned around 200 poems,” added the teenage poet who aims to become a good writer in future.

Anindita, a Plus Two student of Vikram Deb College in Jeypore, was the lone final competitor from India.

Over 20,000 participants from 129 countries across the world had taken part in the competition. However, only 50 contenders were selected for the fifth and final public voting round.
