Odisha CM flags off digital literacy bus ‘World on Wheels’

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off a special digital literacy bus ‘World on Wheels’ here at the state Secretariat on Saturday.

The literacy vehicle ‘World on Wheels’, which has been sponsored by Hewlett-Packard (HP) India will travel the rural are of the state to impart elementary training to the school students and rural populace and enable them to have access to the digital world.

Sources said that it would impart elementary training on computer operating and use of internet for the next three months.

“Digital Literacy Vehicle is a welcome initiative. I’m given to understand that it’ll impart training to more than 7,500 individuals in the next five years and will help bridge the digital divide,” said the Chief Minister.

“It will enable digital inclusion and lead to empowerment with honing of skills & capabilities leading to better lives for people,” he added.

Likewise, Center for Youth and Social Development (CYSD) chief Prafulla Kumar Sahu said, “This computer literacy will also aware the tribal populace on the sensitive issues relating to health, education, water and sanitation.”

Odisha Skill Development Authority head Subrota Bagchi, HP India representative Pasupulati Shrinivas, EDII regional coordinator Chittaranjan Patnaik and CYSD Skill Development Programme Officer Niladri Bihari Sahu were among many others who attended the flagging off ceremony of the digital literacy vehicle.
