Odisha Chit fund Scam: Govt extends MM Das Commission’s tenure

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha on Saturday extended the tenure of commission headed by Justice MM Das probing into alleged multi-crore chit fund scam in the state by six months with effect from February 5.

The State Home Department issued a notice in this regard.

The Justice MM Das Commission, which was constituted on January 28, 2015, has identified a total of 55,563 small depositors in the fourth phase after verifying 1,38,388 affidavits submitted by the investors.

Around 342 chit fund companies have already been served notice in this regard, sources said.

Earlier, the commission had recommended ensuring refund of money deposited by the small investors on priority basis, while the State Government created a corpus fund of Rs 300 crore for this purpose.
