Odisha Boy Jyotiranjan Barik tops GATE-2018

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Jyotiranjan Barik has made the state proud by topping the all India Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018, results of which were declared by the official exam organizer Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) yesterday.

Jyotiranjan Barik, a student of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar, secured  All India Rank 1 in the Agricultural Engineering paper, with an overall score of 959 while Namita Kalra from Uttarakhand has secured All India Rank 1 in Computer Science Engineering.

Likewise, Prashant Gupta, a farmer’s son from Lucknow, secured All India Rank 1 in Chemistry subject with 71.67 per cent out of 100.

Taking to his twitter handle Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Barik and wished him all success in his career.

The exam was conducted on February 3, 4, 10 and 11 for all those who wish to join master’s and direct doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture and in other branches of science at Indian Institute of Science and all IITs.

According to the official notification, the GATE-2018 scorecards can be downloaded from March 20 to May 31 through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) http://appsgate.iitg.ac.in

In case, GATE qualified candidates require the soft copy of their GATE Scorecard after May 31, 2018 and till  December 31 2018, he or she could pay a fee of Rs 500/- for obtaining the same.

Notably, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science.

The examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE and the HRD Ministry.
