Notably, the incident came to the fore after the Bhadrak Child Welfare Committee (CWC) got a phone call in this regard Tuesday morning. CWC members immediately rushed to the Kuansha village and found Pandya in an inebriated condition. When the CWC officials inquired about the child sale, the husband confessed to having sold his one-year-old son for Rs 25,000. He said he had purchased a saree, some jewelry and a mobile phone with the money earned through the sale of the baby. But he insisted that he had sold off his son not for money, but for his better future since they were poor.
