Odisha Assembly’s Budget Session begins on stormy note

Bhubaneswar: The budget session of the Odisha Assembly began on Tuesday on a stormy note as the opposition Congress walked away while Governor SC Jamir was addressing his speech.

The Opposition members left the House protesting over farmers’ issues and law and order situation in the state.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra alleged that the State Government, in Governor’s speech, has shown a rosy picture of the state and ignored the ongoing farmers’ plight.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, MInisters and MLAs across party line condoled the death of former Ministers Benudhar Baliarsingh, Frieda Toppo and other former members of the State assembly who passed away recently.

The session will continue till May 5 in two phases: the first part will continue from March 20 to March 31 and the second from April 11 to May 5.

Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera will present the state’s annual budget for the year 2018-19 on March 23.

Meanwhile, Speaker Pradip Amat adjourned the House till tomorrow.
