Bhubaneswar: The second phase Budget Session of Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) began with a stormy note today.

Legislators of the ruling BJD created ruckus in the House minutes after the beginning of the second phase Budget Session of the state Assembly at 10.30 AM over issues related to Mahanadi Water Dispute. Unable to run the business of the House, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House till 3 PM.

Later, the BJD MLAs staged a dharana in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the premises of OLA. They alleged that despite the formation of Mahanadi tribunal, the Union government is extending support to Chhattisgarh over the Mahanadi issue as election will be held in the neighbouring state in near future.

The second phase of the Budget Session will continue till May 5. However, it is assumed that, like the first session which was held from March 20 to March 31, is likely to witness commotion as the opposition BJP and Congress have decided to raise several issues to corner the ruling party.

Delay in appointment of Lokayukta, Mahanadi water row, migrant labourers, shortage of teachers, deteriorating law and order situation, drinking water scarcity and employment are some of the many issues which the Congress and BJP lawmakers have decided to raise during the second phase Budget Session.
