Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned for the second time on Saturday following the uproar by the Opposition Congress members over the issue of irregular meeting of the Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC).

As soon as the House met for the day, Congress Legislator Krushna Sagaria drew the attention of the House saying the State Government has formed the Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) for the welfare of the tribal community in the state, but failed to conduct the TAC meeting on a regular basis, which should sit twice a year.

Not satisfied with the reply of the Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Majhi, Leader of the Opposition Narasingh Mishra said though the Chief Minister is the Chairperson of the TAC, he has not shown any interest in convening the TAC meeting which has not been held since last five years.

“This shows how the state government is concerned about the welfare of the tribals in the state,” Mishra stated.

Soon after the statement of Mishra, the Congress legislators trooped into the well raising slogans against the government.

Amid noisy scenes, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat appealed the agitating members to go back to their seats saying he has to adjourn the House if members do not want to run the business.

Later, the Speaker adjourned the House till 11.30 AM today.

As the House re-assembled at 11.30 AM after its first adjournment, the Opposition Congress and BJP members cornered the Naveen Government over irregularities in conduct of TAC meeting.

As the noisy scenes continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till 3 PM.

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that the State Government has not conducted TAC meeting in accordance with rules and conventions, while speaking to media persons after the House was adjourned for the second time today.
